Loch Ness is located in the Highlands of Scotland and it is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the United Kingdom. The place is a great location to spend a vacation not only because of its great beauty and central location in Scotland, but also because of the mystery that surrounds the place.
For years people have speculated about a monster living in the loch. If you are visiting Scotland Highlands then you must visit the lake and try to figure out whether the Loch Ness Monster is a fact or myth.
The legend of the Loch Ness Monster dates back to the 7th century, when a tale about a monster that resided near the loch appeared in “Life of St. Columba”. According to the tale, St. Columba heard of a monster in the lake that had killed a man. He went to defeat the monster taking one of his follower who was sent into the loch’s water as bait. When the beast came out the monk ordered him away and the beast fled away in terror. This beast is universally known as the Loch Ness Monster.
The first man to claim of seeing a monster was George Spicer in 1933 and he described it as a gigantic creature resembling a dragon in appearance. Since then many people have claimed to see a monster in the loch’s water. There has been no real proof of the monster’s existence and the scientists believe that the sightings are a result of mere wishful thinking. People see what they want to see.
Today there are thousands of people who visit the Loch Ness every year trying to find the truth about the existence of a monster in the lake. Webcams have been placed around the lake and many search parties have been organized to find the monster, but there have been no satisfactory results.
In recent years the interest in the Loch Ness Monster has died down and people are becoming more and more skeptical about the existence of the large sea serpent. Nonetheless Loch Ness is a beautiful place and definitely worth visiting.
